Although that goal has still not been reached, there has been some remarkable progress in that direction since. Animal shelters in the city have reduced their rates of euthanasia across the board since the 1990s, with a few of them now even finishing certain years without either putting a healthy animal to sleep or handing one off to a shelter that will. That is a remarkable accomplishment, given the magnitude of the problem, and it has only become possible through a lot of hard work.The necessary help has frequently come from some unexpected quarters, too.
